In the blink of an eye, the baby turns into a toddler, and then a child.  Much like the ever-popular cake smash, my themed child portrait sessions are designed to capture your little one in an age-appropriate, studio-based photo session.  The difference between the two?  Cake smashes generally occur around the child's first birthday, and with a themed child portrait session, having no reason whatsoever is the perfect reason to have a portrait session!

Themed portrait sessions are generally an hour in length and are centred around your style ideas; all are done in my child-friendly Ladner studio.  With more than 50 deluxe sets and backdrops on hand, I have a plethora of options that can be mixed and matched to create the look you desire.  Siblings and family are encouraged to partake as requested!

These sessions are high-energy.  What does this entail?   It means that in an hour-long session, I'm going to pull out of all of the stops to make the session as interactive, playful and yes, as crazy as possible.  From my own experience as a mom, we have…well…a zero percent chance of success getting beautiful portraits by asking a 2-year-old to sit on a floor and say "cheese!"  (Although if you have had success with this, please share your secrets!)  My sessions are instead a combination of games, peek-a-boo, silly songs and surprises to keep your child engaged and interested.  I have a master's degree in education and have taught and coached young children in a variety of capacities.   These sessions take advantage of my background and my own silliness to capture the natural smiles of your little one.

We can do these sessions in my Ladner studio or at the location of your choice - I have a fully portable studio that I'm happy to bring to your home!  Sessions also have the option of being combined with an outdoor family mini session to ensure we capture a large variety of images that are sure to enhance your family's photo albums and wall portrait displays.

Generally speaking, a child portrait session may include up to 4 distinct sets from my collection - I'm happy to provide a link to my full backdrop collection upon request.  Sets range from fun and playful to more traditional portrait-style monotones, and I'm happy to provide guidance on backdrops that fit your vision.

There's no age limit for these sessions as long as you have an interest in capturing great photos that are full of youth and vigor!  These sessions work best for children who are able to sit independently, generally 5-6 months of age and older.

Interested in a different type of child-centred session?  All clients have the option of three types of sessions that emphasize the child - a family session that includes the children and is generally offered outdoors (weather-permitting),  a childhood session outdoors that focuses on capturing the authentic parts of childhood - games, handstands, maybe a playground or two - or a themed portrait session in-studio that focuses primarily on the child.   My childhood gallery showcases my outdoor work.
