School Portraiture...with Personality!

I'm so excited to be photographing your child's school this year!

As a mom of two myself, I know just how quickly these early years pass. My goal is to capture the same memories I'd want of my own children—genuine smiles, playful moments, and the wonderful personalities that make each child unique.

Below are a few helpful tips to make photo day a fun and successful experience.

Before Photo Day

👕 What should my child wear?

Your child's school has selected a backdrop for photo day, but beyond that, I encourage children to dress in a way that reflects their personality. Favourite colours, beloved outfits, and even the occasional superhero or princess costume are all welcome if permitted by your school!

🧸 Can my child bring a favourite toy?

Some schools allow children to bring a favourite stuffed animal or comfort item—please check with your child's teachers. If your school permits it, we're happy to include these special companions in a few portraits. Our photographers are experienced at gently encouraging little ones to let their favourite friend "take a little break" so we can capture a variety of images both with and without it.

If your child isn't quite ready to put their special friend down, that's perfectly okay too. We'll work with your child at their own pace to create beautiful portraits while keeping the experience fun, relaxed, and full of smiles.

😊 Should I prepare my child?

The best preparation is...no preparation!

Please don't worry about asking your child to practise smiling or pose for the camera. I specialize in working with young children and will use games, conversation, and plenty of silliness to capture natural expressions and genuine smiles.

On Photo Day

📸 What happens during the session?

Each session is relaxed, playful, and tailored to your child's personality. Some children warm up immediately, while others simply need a little extra time—and that's perfectly okay.

Our goal isn't to create the "perfect" smile. It's to capture your child.

👨‍👩‍👧 Can parents be present?

To help children stay focused and relaxed, we ask that parents not be present during portraits or class photos unless a teacher feels a parent should be present.

Your child will always be accompanied by a trusted teacher or staff member throughout the session. Having a familiar adult nearby helps children feel comfortable while allowing us to create relaxed, natural portraits.

📱 Can I take photos?

We kindly ask that personal photography not take place around the photo area so we can provide every child with the best possible experience.

👧👦 What about siblings?

If siblings attend the same school, we're happy to photograph them together—just let your child's teacher know before photo day.

If your children attend different schools, we also offer sibling sessions during our in-studio Child Portrait Mini events throughout the year.

After Photo Day

🖼️ How do I view my child's photos?

Within 1–2 weeks, you'll receive access to your child's secure, password-protected online gallery. Each gallery includes a variety of carefully edited images with different poses, expressions, and crops.

✨ Are the photos edited?

Absolutely! Every portrait is individually finished with professional adjustments to colour, lighting, brightness, cropping, and overall presentation while preserving the natural expressions and personality that make your child unique.

For families who would like more extensive editing, we also offer optional premium retouching for a small additional fee. Services include skin softening, teeth whitening, glasses glare removal, blemish removal, and other cosmetic enhancements.

Class photos are available as professional prints.

🚚 When will I receive my order?

Digital images are delivered within a few days of purchase.

Print orders are professionally produced after your school's ordering deadline and are typically distributed through your school two to three weeks later.

Your Child's Privacy

Protecting children's privacy is one of my highest priorities.

Every child's gallery is secure and password protected. While I have always required explicit written parental permission before publicly sharing any child's image, since 2024 I have chosen not to publicly share any new student portraits—even when families have generously granted permission. Today, all new school portraits remain exclusively within each family's private online gallery.

The images you see throughout this website were shared prior to 2024 with written parental permission or were created during dedicated model sessions specifically for marketing purposes.
